HEAF shares about 250 to 300 patients per year who report facing financial barriers. About 90% of patients are NOT insured. 61% of patients were employed.
HEAF treats patients that are Texas residents from across the state (about 35-50 counties per year). Most HEAF patients live in Harris (22%) Fort Bend (13%), and Montgomery (10%) counties.
Patients range in age from 5-89 years old, with an average age of 54 years old.

Patient Care by Specialty

Since 1981, Houston Eye Associates Foundation physicians have donated compassionate vision care for Texans in need. Their generous volunteerism allows the Foundation to offer treatment in most specialties and for all ages.

While patients have a variety of, and sometimes multiple vision needs, most require treatment for cataracts, retina care, and/or glaucoma.
